Power BI New Pricing

Power BI New Pricing

Pricing Updates for Pro and Premium

After nearly a decade of innovation with Power BI, our friends at Microsoft have decided it’s time for a price increase. Starting April 1, 2025, Power BI Pro licenses will be priced at $14 USD (£11 GBP) per user/month, Premium Per User (PPU) licenses will be $24 USD per user/month, (£19 GBP).

This adjustment applies globally to new and existing commercial customers upon renewal and they say ‘it reflects the remarkable evolution of Power BI since its launch in 2015’.

A Journey of Innovation:

When Power BI launched, their vision was simple: make data analysis accessible and transformative for every organisation. Fast forward almost 10 years, and it has become a widely used tool for more than 350,000 organisations and 6.5 million developers worldwide.

With a passion for data-driven decision-making, I’ve been consistently impressed by how Power BI has evolved. Over the past six years, Microsoft has pushed out over 1,500 updates. From AI-powered insights to enterprise-grade security and tonnes of integrations, the platform continues to push out updates month after month.

Breaking Down the Licensing Costs:

Power BI Pro, $14 USD (£11 GBP) per user/month: This allows teams to collaborate and create data visualisations. The monthly updates with 100+ data sources make it a good choice for organisations that need accessible analytics.

Power BI Premium Per User (PPU), $24 USD per user/month, (£19 GBP): This was introduced in 2021, this license model takes it a step further, offering all Pro features plus premium add-ons like handling large models and more frequent data refreshes. For those with advanced BI needs, it’s not bad value.

What This Means for You:

The pricing change will impact customers differently based on their current agreements:

New Customers: The new pricing applies to all new purchases after April 1, 2025.

Existing EA Customers: If you’re in an Enterprise Agreement, you’ll maintain your current pricing until renewal.

Microsoft 365 E5/Office 365 E5 Customers: If Power BI is included in your subscription, your pricing remains unchanged. Thankfully!
